For Schools
Figures released this month (on 29/9/2021) show youth suicide is on the rise. Last year (2020) in WA, fifty eight (58) young people between the ages of 15 - 24 took their life. This figure has risen to more than one per week. It is time for us all to do more to help our youth. While schools and teachers already have enough on their plate, schools are also the perfect arena to target groups and cohorts of students to help shift and change the culture of the way young people see themselves and others. Speak to Yourself With Love is just one way we can educate our youths to help this shift happen.
Even if someone has a positive self-image and positive self-worth, being aware of the internalised power of their own personalised voice and thoughts can act as further prevention and understanding of how this image can be threatened and become vulnerable if such negative self-talk takes hold. Speak to Yourself with Love identifies this pattern within each individual and wants to help participants learn about this voice and how to transform it into their biggest cheerleader and best friend.
The clip below shows an example of what Negative Self Talk is and what the Speak to Yourself With Love program aims to change:
Kelly taught primary school and high school students for over 20 years and is a trained Gatekeeper (able to recognise verbal and non-verbal clues of suicidal/depressed people and trained to speak to them in a way that makes them feel safe and able to trust opening up and optimising their potential of accepting the help and support they need). For the past few years, before she left teaching to pursue this business full-time, Kelly was part of her school’s Growth Mindset team where she was a facilitator and ran professional development sessions, training other teachers how they can implement growth mindset concepts into their everyday lessons. Kelly also has over a decade of spiritual coaching and counselling experience as a Reiki Master and certified Hypnotherapist and holds diplomas in Marma Point Therapy and Holistic Counselling and studied a Graduate Diploma in Psychology.
On a personal level, Kelly has experienced depression & anxiety and learnt how to overcome and live with both. She has also dealt with the heartache and widespread effects of losing people very close to her to suicide and wants to do all she can to help other families and individuals avoid the same unnecessary tragedy. In a bid to help further, she wrote this program specifically for students. The content of the program and activities of the program have been designed to be appropriate for youths from 10 years old through to adults. Kelly varies the delivery and life examples used to support the content of the program to suit the maturity and relevance of her audience. Speak to Yourself with Love, not only teaches participants how to negate negative self-talk, but it also helps them teach others how to do the same.
As a mother and teacher, Kelly wants our kids to grow and develop into healthy, self-sufficient and HAPPY adults. She is exceptionally experienced dealing with youth and teenagers and has a very good understanding about the everyday struggles they face-be it study, body issues, friends, social media and so on. There’s always going to be someone out there has something negative to say about ourselves - it's time our youth learn how to be the one voice that disagrees and tells them how awesome they truly are! Because they are! Healthy youths grow into healthy adults. Everyone deserves to be happy and have positive and happy mental health-and Speak to Yourself With Love is a step closer to making this a permanent change for your students, yourself, and others.
The program is written as 3 x 45 minute, interactive lessons and can be delivered individually across several days/weeks or as a half day workshop. Schools will receive a hardcopy of the 14-page Workbook (7 pages when photocopied double-sided) which they can reproduce and photocopy as booklets for the number of students participating in the workshop. Kelly provides all other materials required for the sessions. A room with a smartboard will be required for the workshop to be delivered effectively.
Maximum group size is 32 students.
Zoom Delivery is also an option. Please call Kelly on 0409 883 955 to discuss this delivery method.
